I have been a writer for almost two years now.

When I started this journey of becoming an author and wanting to turn it into a business, I spoke to my husband about it and the only thing he asked for was for me to do everything myself. Crazy right? Yes. But the thing is, I understand now why he said that. Writing, editing and formatting and publishing without paying anyone for help has been an amazing learning experience. I cannot begin to tell you all the amazing things I have learned. Yes, it is easier to pay someone to edit your book and format and build a website for you, but you don't learn how to do it. What if one day you cannot afford an editor? What will you do then? Throughout my entire writing experience I couldn't afford to pay. I am not saying that you can't pay someone, but if you don't have the money, find friends that can help you. That have more experience with editing or formatting. That is exactly what I did. I don't know where I would be without my friends who helped me or connected me to people that could help me with what I was struggling with. Making friends within the author community is such a big thing. Most that you will meet will want to help and give you advice. If you can't find someone, email me and I will help you connect to a writing group. Writing groups are so important to have, whether it is to bounce ideas off of or work through a writing slump.
